Joy Island Maldives to showcase Maldivian flavours and traditions for Eid Al-Adha
Joy Island Maldives has unveiled a three-day Eid Al-Adha celebration programme centred on Maldivian culture, traditional cuisine and island community experiences, offering guests an immersive look into local heritage from 26 to 28 May 2026.
For chefs and hospitality professionals, the programme highlights the growing role of cultural dining experiences and authentic local traditions within resort guest programming across the Maldives.
The celebrations will begin on 26 May with an Eid Night Celebration at the resort’s Staff Beach, featuring the traditional Eid Malhi lighting ritual, accompanied by live Boduberu performances. Guests will also take part in a Bodibaiy and BBQ gathering, bringing together communal dining and island-style outdoor celebrations beneath the stars.
The inclusion of Bodibaiy — a traditional Maldivian rice dish often associated with festive occasions and community gatherings — reflects increasing efforts by resorts to showcase local flavours and culinary heritage as part of guest experiences.
On 27 May, the resort will continue the festivities with a traditional Eid morning programme including Eid Prayer, Eid Breakfast and Eid Salaam led by the resort’s management team.
Later in the day, guests will be invited to join the Eid Maali Parade at the Water Sports Beach. The event will feature Bodumas performances, Maali characters, traditional ladies’ dancing and Boduberu drumming, presenting key elements of Maldivian cultural celebrations.
The programme will additionally include interactive local games and island activities such as Tug of War, Naashi Vehttu, Faigathalhaa and Eid Kula Jehun, encouraging guests to participate in community-based traditions commonly associated with Eid celebrations in the Maldives.
The festivities will conclude on 28 May with a Special Maldivian Night, designed as an immersive evening showcasing Maldivian flavours, music and cultural traditions. While details of the menu were not disclosed, the event is expected to highlight local culinary influences and traditional island-inspired dining experiences.
Ahmed Jihad, Chief Operating Officer of The Cocoon Collection, said the celebrations are intended to share the spirit of Maldivian hospitality with international visitors.
“At Joy Island Maldives, we are delighted to celebrate Eid Al-Adha by sharing the warmth of Maldivian hospitality and the beauty of our local traditions with guests from around the world,” he said.
“These celebrations are designed to create meaningful cultural connections and joyful moments that truly reflect the spirit of the Maldives.”
As resorts across the Maldives continue to expand destination-led experiences, cultural dining and traditional celebrations are increasingly becoming part of the luxury hospitality offering, allowing guests to engage more closely with local cuisine, entertainment and island customs.
