Biryani, tandoori and Indian buffets lead Centara Maldives Diwali celebrations

Centara Hotels & Resorts will celebrate Diwali across four of its Maldives properties this November, bringing together Indian cuisine, beachfront dining, festive sweets and cocktail experiences to mark the Festival of Lights.

Centara Grand Lagoon Maldives, Centara Mirage Lagoon Maldives, Machchafushi Island Resort & Spa Maldives, The Centara Collection, and Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa Maldives will each present programmes inspired by Indian cultural and culinary traditions.

For chefs and food and beverage professionals, the celebrations will provide opportunities to showcase different aspects of Indian cuisine, from regional biryani preparations and tandoori cooking to buffet dining, traditional sweets and festive beverages.

Indian buffet and cocktail making at Machchafushi

At Machchafushi Island Resort & Spa Maldives, Diwali celebrations will take place on 8 November, with a specially curated Indian buffet dinner forming the principal culinary event.

The dinner will bring Indian flavours into the resort’s festive programme, accompanied by Bollywood entertainment.

The resort will also host a cocktail-making experience, providing an interactive beverage component alongside cultural activities including henna artistry and rangoli.

For the culinary team, the Indian buffet will provide an opportunity to present a selection of dishes from India’s diverse food traditions. Buffet service also requires coordination across preparation, cooking and replenishment to maintain consistency throughout the evening.

Biryani, tandoori and festive sweets at Centara Ras Fushi

At adults-only Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa Maldives, the culinary programme will centre on a beachfront biryani dinner at Waves Beach on 8 November.

The specially curated dining experience will feature regional Indian specialities, tandoori favourites and traditional festive sweets.

Biryani is among India’s most recognised rice preparations, with variations across regions that differ in their use of spices, meat, vegetables and cooking techniques.

Tandoori cooking will provide another element of the dining experience, highlighting preparations associated with marination and high-temperature cooking.

Traditional Indian sweets will complete the festive menu, placing the pastry and dessert component of Diwali celebrations alongside the savoury dishes.

The beachfront dinner will be followed by music and karaoke at Giraavaru Bar.

Family dining and festive cocktails at Centara Mirage Lagoon

Centara Mirage Lagoon Maldives will celebrate Diwali from 7 to 9 November, combining Indian-inspired dining and festive cocktails with activities designed for families.

The programme will include rangoli creations, creative masterclasses, Bollywood entertainment and a beachside fire show.

For the resort’s food and beverage teams, the celebrations will bring Indian culinary influences into a family-focused environment, with food and drinks contributing to the wider cultural experience.

Centara Grand Lagoon Maldives will also mark Diwali from 7 to 9 November, with a programme featuring festive arts and crafts, family activities, Bollywood entertainment and outdoor cinema.

Indian culinary traditions in Maldives resort dining

Across the four resorts, the Diwali programmes will highlight the role of food in cultural celebrations, particularly through shared meals, regional dishes and traditional sweets.

For Maldives resort chefs, such occasions provide opportunities to present cuisine within its cultural context while catering to an international guest audience.

The different culinary formats also reflect the varied identities of Centara’s properties, from family-focused dining at Centara Mirage Lagoon to beachfront biryani and tandoori specialities at Centara Ras Fushi.

Through Indian buffets, regional preparations, cocktail experiences and traditional desserts, Centara’s Diwali celebrations will bring Indian culinary heritage into the Maldives resort dining experience during the Festival of Lights.
