JOALI Maldives unveils theatre-inspired festive feasts and chef-led journeys
JOALI Maldives has announced a chef-led festive dining programme featuring three gala celebrations, themed culinary experiences, a Gingerbread House and cocktail events as part of its 2026 festive season.
Running from 20 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, the programme will be presented under the theme ‘Life is a Theatre – The Island Takes the Stage’. Drawing inspiration from historic theatres, the resort will use dining, performance and visual presentation to connect its culinary offering with the wider festive concept.
Three gala dinners will serve as the principal food and beverage events of the season. The programme will begin with a Christmas Eve Gala Dinner on 24 December, combining cuisine and live performance in a setting inspired by European theatres.
The resort will hold its New Year’s Eve Gala on 31 December. Based on a film-noir concept, the event will use a monochrome and gold visual palette and bring together dining, live entertainment, fireworks and the countdown to 2027.
An Orthodox Christmas Gala will follow on 6 January, presenting global flavours in a setting influenced by regal traditions. The three dinners will require the resort’s culinary, pastry, beverage and service teams to translate separate creative themes into coordinated menus and guest experiences.
Beyond the gala events, JOALI Maldives will host a series of smaller chef-led dining experiences. These will include Sparkle O’Clock, Mediterranean Dream, The Pasta Performance and Once Upon a Sake.
Mediterranean Dream will bring the ingredients and cooking traditions of the Mediterranean into the seasonal programme, while The Pasta Performance will place pasta preparation at the centre of the dining experience. The format offers the culinary team an opportunity to highlight dough preparation, shaping, cooking and sauce pairing as part of a guest-facing presentation.
Once Upon a Sake will explore the relationship between Japanese sake and food. Such an experience places emphasis not only on the dishes, but also on selecting sake according to factors including aroma, acidity, texture, temperature and the flavour profile of each course.
Sparkle O’Clock will add another beverage-led component to the programme. Although the resort has not announced specific menus, producers or pairings for the themed events, it said the culinary calendar would combine intimate chef-led journeys with family-style feasts.
Cocktail experiences will be staged at different locations across the island throughout the season. The programme will include speakeasy evenings, jazz gatherings and sundowners, giving the bar team several formats through which to develop drinks, presentation styles and service rituals suited to each setting.
Pastry will also form part of the opening celebrations. The festive season will begin with the lighting of the resort’s Christmas tree, followed by the opening of a Gingerbread House and the arrival of Santa Claus.
For pastry professionals, a gingerbread installation brings together baking and decorative work with structural planning. Its development can involve testing dough for strength and consistency, producing pieces to scale, assembling the structure and applying confectionery decorations that remain stable in the Maldives’ warm and humid conditions.
The festive programme will extend beyond food and beverage to visiting experts, art, marine conservation and wellbeing. Former world number one and Grand Slam champion Ana Ivanović will conduct tennis masterclasses on selected dates, while visiting practitioner Zoa Aviño Hernandez will offer therapies informed by traditions from Bali, Thailand and Mexico.
Guests will also be able to take part in ceramic workshops and the resort’s Christmas Corals activity, which involves adding coral fragments to a Christmas tree-shaped frame as part of its marine restoration work. Ocean activities, dolphin cruises, padel and treatments at JOALI BEING Cure will be available during the season.
Muramas Kids Club will run daily activities around the themes of Create, Play, Discover and Move, including crafts, games, sports and festive parties.
JOALI Maldives has also introduced an accommodation offer for stays between 21 December 2026 and 10 January 2027. Benefits include a five per cent reduction on applicable room rates for stays of at least seven nights in an overwater category, along with early-booking reductions.
