Four Seasons Maldives turns private celebrations into personalised culinary journeys

Four Seasons is placing personalised culinary experiences at the centre of intimate celebrations and private gatherings across its Maldives properties, with concepts ranging from a Maldivian Fisherman’s Feast at a private island to dinner served within the tropical canopy of Baa Atoll.

As part of Four Seasons Resorts of Asia’s focus on tailored group travel, Four Seasons Private Island Maldives at Voavah and Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru are using destination dining as a key component of celebrations including weddings, anniversaries, family reunions and private island gatherings.

For culinary and food and beverage teams, such events move beyond conventional restaurant service. Menus, locations and service formats can be adapted around individual groups, requiring coordination between chefs and service teams while drawing on the ingredients and environment of the Maldives.

Maldivian Fisherman’s Feast at Voavah

At Four Seasons Private Island Maldives at Voavah, guests can embark on themed culinary journeys including a Maldivian Fisherman’s Feast featuring the day’s catch.

Located within the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Voavah is a five-acre private island accommodating up to 30 guests in seven rooms. The property caters to one group at a time and is supported by a team of 30 staff.

That operating model provides the culinary team with scope to tailor dining around the preferences and schedules of a single party rather than running a conventional resort restaurant programme for multiple groups of guests.

The Fisherman’s Feast is particularly connected to its location. By building the experience around the day’s catch, the concept places seafood and Maldivian culinary identity at the centre of the meal while allowing the menu to respond to what is available.

For chefs, working with a changing catch can encourage a more ingredient-led approach, where preparation and accompaniments are determined after the principal ingredient is selected rather than through a completely fixed menu.

Voavah’s full-island format also allows dining to move between different environments, with beach, poolside, indoor and outdoor spaces available for private experiences.

Taking the table into the treetops

At neighbouring Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru, destination dining extends above ground through Tales from a Treetop Table, an experience designed for two within the island’s canopy.

The concept demonstrates another aspect of personalised resort gastronomy: moving a meal away from the traditional restaurant and designing food and service around a specific location.

Such destination dining requires additional planning from culinary and F&B teams. Food must reach the dining location at the intended temperature and presentation standard, while the progression of courses, beverage service and guest interaction must be coordinated outside the infrastructure of a conventional restaurant.

Landaa Giraavaru also hosts multi-day celebrations combining private dining with marine experiences, conservation and wellbeing programmes.

Its four-bedroom Landaa Estate, set along 80 metres of private beach and featuring a 20-metre swimming pool, can accommodate gatherings ranging from family reunions and corporate retreats to small wedding receptions. These private settings provide further scope for culinary teams to develop menus around the character and schedule of individual events.

Food as part of the celebration

Across the Maldives hospitality sector, destination dining has become an important way for culinary teams to connect food with the physical environment of an island.

For weddings, anniversaries and family gatherings, the meal can also carry additional significance. Rather than simply selecting dishes from an existing restaurant menu, private events give chefs opportunities to consider the occasion, guest preferences, setting and local ingredients as part of the menu-development process.

The Four Seasons experiences in the Maldives illustrate two different approaches. At Voavah, the Fisherman’s Feast uses the day’s catch and Maldivian identity to shape the culinary journey. At Landaa Giraavaru, Tales from a Treetop Table uses an unconventional setting to change the context in which the meal is served.

Both place greater demands on kitchen and service teams, but also give chefs the opportunity to develop dining experiences that are closely connected to place.

Four Seasons also operates Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa, where private villas, beaches and tropical gardens cater to small and multigenerational groups.

Across the three Maldives properties, the wider focus on personalised gatherings demonstrates how food and beverage can become an integral part of private island celebrations. For culinary professionals, it is an approach that brings together menu customisation, local ingredients, destination service and collaboration between kitchen and front-of-house teams.
