Meyyafushi Maldives unveils festive culinary programme with gala dinners, wine pairings and underwater dining

Meyyafushi Maldives has unveiled a festive programme running from 22 December 2026 to 6 January 2027, with gastronomy forming a central part of a two-week schedule that will include Christmas and New Year gala dinners, wine tastings, lobster dinners, pairing menus and culinary workshops.

The programme will combine food and beverage experiences with wellness, recreation, cultural activities and family events as the resort marks its festive season across different venues on the island.

For culinary teams, the programme reflects the scale of food and beverage operations required during one of the busiest periods of the Maldives resort calendar. Alongside large-format festive dinners, Meyyafushi is planning a series of smaller dining experiences built around wine, seafood and destination-led settings.

Among the programme’s main events will be Christmas and New Year’s Eve gala dinners. Such events traditionally require resort kitchen brigades to operate across multiple production areas, bringing together large guest numbers, expanded menus and live service while maintaining presentation and consistency.

Meyyafushi will complement its gala programme with wine tastings, lobster dinners and dedicated wine-pairing evenings, creating opportunities for the resort’s culinary and beverage teams to work across different menu formats during the season.

The wine-focused experiences will draw on the resort’s Raa Wine Cellar, while the pairing dinners will place greater emphasis on the relationship between the kitchen and beverage operation. For chefs and sommeliers, pairing menus require close consideration of acidity, sweetness, texture, cooking method and seasoning, allowing both food and wine to contribute to the structure of the meal.

Seafood will also feature in the festive offering through dedicated lobster dinners. In a Maldives resort setting, such dinners can provide culinary teams with scope to explore different preparations while placing premium seafood at the centre of the guest experience.

Another distinctive part of Meyyafushi’s food and beverage portfolio is Bubble Underwater Restaurant, where guests will be able to dine beneath the ocean during the festive period. The venue gives the culinary team an opportunity to combine menu development with a highly specific dining environment, where the setting itself becomes part of the overall experience.

Underwater restaurants have become one of the Maldives’ most recognisable destination-dining concepts, presenting chefs with a different operational and creative context from conventional resort restaurants. Menu pacing, plating, service coordination and the visual character of individual courses all contribute to an experience in which food is presented alongside views of the surrounding marine environment.

The resort’s festive programme will also include culinary workshops during the daytime schedule. While further details of the sessions have not been announced, interactive culinary activities provide another route for kitchen teams to engage directly with guests and demonstrate techniques that are normally carried out behind the scenes.

Family participation will extend into the food programme through cookie-decorating activities for younger guests. These sessions will sit alongside Christmas tree decorating, children’s art workshops, festive scavenger hunts and New Year wish activities.

For pastry and bakery teams, cookie decorating and other family-oriented festive activities represent a different form of culinary engagement, combining production with interactive presentation. Such activities also allow younger guests to participate directly in the resort’s festive food offering rather than experiencing it only through restaurant service.

Across the island, the food and beverage programme will be accompanied by live music, cultural performances and festive entertainment. Meyyafushi said its festive styling will follow a bohemian-inspired approach using natural textures, warm earthy tones and sunset acoustic sessions.

The design direction will also influence evening experiences by the water, where guests will gather for sunset drinks and relaxed pre-dinner sessions before moving into the night’s dining and entertainment programme.

Champagne and wine will form part of these sunset occasions, further connecting the resort’s beverage programme with its wider festive schedule.

From an operational perspective, Meyyafushi’s programme brings together several formats that require different approaches from culinary and service teams: gala catering, plated pairing dinners, seafood-led menus, wine tastings, destination dining, family culinary activities and regular restaurant operations.

Maintaining a consistent guest experience across these formats during the festive period places particular importance on preparation, coordination between kitchen and front-of-house teams, ingredient planning and communication across food and beverage departments.

The programme will run alongside a broader range of island activities. Guests will be able to begin the day with snorkelling, yoga or padel before taking part in culinary workshops, traditional palm-leaf artistry and other recreational activities.

Wellness will remain part of the programme through yoga, sound healing and spa experiences, providing a counterpoint to the resort’s dining and evening celebrations.

New Year’s Eve will conclude with a countdown celebration featuring live entertainment, music, dancing and fireworks as guests welcome 2027.

“Our concept celebrates more than the holiday season,” said Ahmed Siaar, General Manager of Meyyafushi Maldives. “It is a celebration of creativity, connection and the joy of slowing down. Every experience has been thoughtfully designed to bring people together while showcasing the warmth, beauty and vibrant spirit of island life.”

For the resort’s culinary and beverage teams, the festive season will therefore involve more than staging Christmas and New Year dinners. The programme has been structured around a series of different food and beverage encounters, from wine-pairing dinners and lobster experiences to workshops, family activities and underwater dining.

The approach reflects a broader direction within Maldives resort dining, where festive programmes increasingly extend beyond gala buffets to include smaller-format culinary events, specialist menus, beverage-led experiences and interactive activities.

At Meyyafushi, those elements will be brought together over the 16-day festive period, positioning gastronomy as one of the main components of the resort’s Christmas and New Year celebrations.
